Ridomo Gorge
Hiking in the gorge is a truly unique experience, as it offers a wonderful spectacle with a variety of geological phenomena with fascinating limestone formations, created by the effect of running water rushing down from the mountains. Vertical slopes with rocks that show countless sharp folds, color variety, lush flora and unspoiled nature. You might also spot goats skilfully balancing on the nearly vertical walls.
The gorge becomes quite narrow at points, like a very tall gate created by the vertical rocks. At its narrowest point it reaches two meters wide and 60 meters high. At this point you can touch both walls at the same time. This is the most impressive part of the gorge!

Viros Gorge
In the Middle Ages, the residents of this area created special stone watchtowers in caves or rocky areas of the gorge, popularly known as vigles. They were constructed to ensure the visual transmission of a message between them in the potential of an enemy invasion.
These watchtowers were used during the Turkish occupation and the Second World War, as a refuge for persecuted persons. Today, ruins of the Royal Road and the stone watchtowers are located in various points of the gorge.
Apart from its natural beauty, it stands out for its historical importance as the ancient Royal Road used to connect ancient Sparta with the port of Kardamyli.

Monastery Panagia Giatrissa
The monastery was erected on the site of the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Athena. The conversion of the temple from pagan to Christian is estimated to have taken place as early as 382 AD.
It sits on a saddle ridge straddling the eastern and western slopes of mountain Taygetos, with beautiful views of the Laconian Gulf to the east, and the Messinian Gulf to the west.
The monastery today maintains a minimal staff of one or two residents. Despite this, it is open most days and accepts visitors and guests, welcoming even those arriving primarily for the magnificent views of the mountains, valleys, and seas below.
